Alarms
All alarms should be taken as real and not assumed to be false.

Awareness
Please make yourself aware of your surroundings, so in the event of an alarm or fire, you are prepared to deal with the situation. Familiarize yourself with the nearest fire exit to your room, fire pull stations, and fire stairwells to street level.

Caution
Although we take all steps possible to be prepared, each alarm situation is different depending on the type of alarm. The most preventative steps that can be taken are for you to make yourself aware of the building and to know how to reach the emergency exits in the event of an alarm.

Communication
As our Hotel is not equipped with a paging system to guest rooms, all communication is done through our switchboard.

When an alarm is pulled or goes off, our switchboard becomes very busy and you may encounter difficulty in getting a response as the Front Desk team will give priority to contacting the emergency authorities.

Disabilities
We try to indicate all persons with disabilities on our guest register. If you are confined to a wheelchair or have a hearing or sight impairment, we ask you advise us when you check-in so we are aware of your location.

In the event of an actual fire, evacuation procedures may be conducted by the fire chief or our own staff. Generally, the rooms located closest to the fire are evacuated first and then the floors below and above depending on the situation.

Fire Exit
Should the alarm sound, we recommend you take your room key (in case it is necessary for you to return) and go to the nearest stairwell exit. Do not use elevators as they will not function. When leaving your room, check the surface of the door carefully to ensure it is not hot, and open the door slowly. If there is smoke in the hallways, keep low to the ground as you move to the stairwell.

Once you reach the street level, please make yourself available directly across the street from the Hotel in the open lot by the giant Canada flag. Our staff will issue further directions or advise you it is safe to return to your rooms once the situation has been assessed by the fire department or the hotel staff.

Note: When the alarm first goes off, our staff’s first response is to call the fire department. Then, to check the location of the alarm to establish if there is a real alarm situation or if it is false. For this reason, we recommend you come directly to the Lobby via the fire exits rather than trying to make contact through the switchboard.
